Cook & Counter Assistants – Fish & Chip Shops, Guernsey

Our client operates established fish and chip shops in Guernsey and requires Cook and Counter Assistants to join the team as soon as possible. The positions combine practical food preparation with customer-facing counter service across busy takeaway environments.

Role
These are permanent positions, potentially lasting for up to three years, subject to the relevant Guernsey employment-permit arrangements. The working pattern follows the shops’ split opening periods, generally 11.45am–1.45pm and 4.30pm–9.30pm, with preparation and start times as required.

Key responsibilities
• Preparing and cooking food in line with the shops’ standards and service requirements.
• Serving customers at the counter and handling orders accurately and politely.
• Supporting preparation before service and helping the team during busy periods.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and safe working practices.
• Assisting with stock handling, cleaning and the general day-to-day operation of the shops.

Person specification
• Previous kitchen, takeaway, fast-food or customer-service experience would be beneficial.
• Reliable, hardworking and comfortable working split shifts and evenings.
• Able to work effectively as part of a small team in a busy environment.
• A positive and polite approach to customers and colleagues.
• Candidates must be able to meet the requirements of the relevant Guernsey employment-permit route.
