Relief Cook – Care Home Catering, Guernsey

Our client is a Guernsey care home seeking an experienced Relief Cook to provide temporary cover for approximately six weeks while it recruits a permanent chef. The start date is currently to be confirmed.

Due to the urgent and short-term nature of this assignment, applications can only be considered from candidates who are currently based in Guernsey and already hold valid documentation confirming their right to work in the island.

Role
The Relief Cook will prepare fresh, nutritious and seasonal meals for approximately 40 elderly residents, including individuals with specific dietary requirements.

The anticipated working hours are:
• 7.30am–1.30pm
• 4.30pm–6.30pm

The client may consider alternative working arrangements where necessary.

Key responsibilities
• Plan and prepare fresh, nutritious and seasonal meals
• Cater appropriately for residents with specific dietary needs
• Work independently alongside one Kitchen Assistant
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene
• Follow HACCP procedures and appropriate food-safety controls
• Manage stock rotation and ensure the kitchen remains organised
• Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the care-home kitchen

Person specification
• Previous professional cooking experience
• Confident preparing meals independently
• Good understanding of food hygiene, HACCP and stock rotation
• Able to cater for dietary requirements
• Organised, dependable and comfortable working within a regulated care environment
• Available for a temporary assignment of approximately six weeks
